One of Two things that make me crazy on the 06 Ultra is the fact of only being able to lock the steering head with it turned to the left,I would love to be able to lock it with it straight. My dealer looked at me like I was idiot and said that's just the way it is. I can't be the only one,so with your great wealth of knowledge folks-
I do not know why it is but it is. it would be so much better to be straight when locking more then one bike togoether with a cable as well for added protection
hmmmmm.....
The idea of the lock turned is to keep someone from rolling bike onto trailer. Why would you want to make it easier to steel, not that someone who wants it wont steal it. Having wheel cranked and using disc lock can detour a lot of casual thieves.
HMM, I have no problem locking my bike to my friends bike, they both turn to the left. we just got back from a 3,000 mile trip out to deals gap and we locked all 4 bikes together with cable locks front safty bar to front safty bar, all 4 bikes with wheel turned to the left, so what is the problem?? did I miss something? we also locked rear safty bar to rear safty bar..somebody was really going to have to work hard to get them.[sm=biker.gif]

another time is when we trailer( I know oh no the trailer) them to places and leave them locked up in wheel chocks in the trailer. WE run a cable but you know how that goes, it would be nice to have an extra lock on their.
My steering lock, locks down for me and I can still turn the handle bars. I need to get this fix. If the wheel is straight it easier to roll in the trailers by thieves.

Okay, I fully understand why it is designed the way it is, I wish to modify it so I can have a slight bit more room in my garage for parking and living where I live causes me to not be able to ride at night so I do trailer my unit so I can meet with friends on a Saturday morning miles from home. I would feel more comforted in these situations being able to lock the bike-having it locked with the head straight is better than unlocked with the head straight.I also want it all, I want to keep my lock left feature. I was in hope that someone may have figured out a way do make a modification. Thanks
