Do it. I use Mobil 1 V-Twin in engine, HD Formula + in primary, and Redline Shockproof Heavy in Trans. Many posts on this subject, but they run cooler, quieter and longer... I wouldn't hesitate a bit if I were you.
Lotsa good Syn products out there... Amsoil's another good product as is Royal Purple.
Your past break in on an '05, so there is NO DOUBT that you should go for it... Rings are seated after break-in, so now she'll love the synthetic, and it will cool her down also....
I vote stay away from Syn 3. Put it in my Low Rider at 1000 and it pitched a fit. The top end chatter got unbearable. The transmission started to get noisy during shifts.
A trip to the dealer and I got the comment that that was normal twin cam running syn 3. "It's a thinner oil"
Well it came out of my ride at 2:am the next morning.
Mobile V-Twin in the engine and primary, Mobile Synthetic 75/90 in the transmission. Now she is happy again.
I have an 05 FLHTCI and run the Syn 3 in the primary and engine and have had pretty good results. I do not recommend Syn 3 in the tranny though. I fell for the dealer sales pitch about running Syn 3 in all three holes. Needless to say, the tranny was drained and replaced with HD semi synthetic tranny oil. I'm coming up on the 5000 mi service interval and plan to go with the AMSOIL products. I have a couple of friends who run AMSOIL and say they will never go back to anything else...that's good enough for me. Good Luck!!!
I vote, Stay Away from Syn 3!!! Amsoil 20-50 in motor and primary, and Amsoil 75 - 90 in the trans. Check out all of the open discussion in the Oil section.
there is not enough difference in additive concentration between Mobil1 15W50 Car oil ($4.50)and 20W50 ($7.50) v-twin to pay the difference. i have 58K on my RK using the car oil since the first oil change. an AC PF-53 filter is the Harley ( by Purolator) equivalent and costs $3.50.
