Default Handlebar height questions

Just traded by 08 street bob for an 09 roadking. I had 16" nash gimps on my dyna. Sitting on the king last night and measured up to 16" above risers. It seemed way lower than the 16" bars on my dyna, can this be right? It seemed if I could comfortably go with 18" apes on my king. Am I imagining things or do the handle bars mount at different heights on these two bikes?

You're not imagining it. Most bars mount at different heights. Look at the old wideglide bars mounted on a wideglide and then look at the same wideglide bars mounted on a low rider. Most have to do with the risers between bikes.

Keep in mind that if you continue to run the full windshield on the RoadKing with 18" bars, the angle of the bars will put your hands back toward your shoulders considerably. A lot of the comfort factor of apehangers will be compromised. You'll then either adjust the bars forward, have cutouts made on your windshield, or switch to 16" bars.

The difference between 16" and 18" apes is rather minimal. If you sit on a bike with 16"'s and put your fists directly above the grips that is about where your hands will sit with 18"'s.
