Very close call if your only limiting the choice to these two... if it had to be one or the other the nod IMO would go to the Classic....

I ditto the previous posts. Looks are a major consideration. I chose the Classic for the following reasons: Didn't care for the look of the bags on the Custom as much as the Classic. Classic already had cruise (which is absolutely worth it's weight in gold). Also, read many posts in here about the "Harsher ride" on the Custom due to it's being lowered. Both nice scoots though!

The choice was a Classic for me with no doubts and no regrets. I just prefer the style - nostalgic, old school. If John Wayne were riding today, he would be riding a Road King Classic.

I love my Classic... I would buy another if something happened to this one.

I have two friends who own the Custom and both wished they have the windshield now. Plus, you will change out most of the stock parts anyway (like most people here) making the bike look different. I believe my RKC now looks more like a Heritage (which I like as much as mine) plus I have all the benefits of the touring bike.

To answer your question directly, I would go with the RKC. Reasons are some what subjective... better stock handlebars on the RKC. non-lowered suspension on the RKC, standard winshield on the RKC, and the way the Classic looks, "classic".

JBBOOKS rides a Classic!

Seriously, for me the cruise and removable windshield were both financial considerations and I preferred the retro styling of the Classic. That being said, the Custom is a sharp ride as well.
