Emisions are supposed to be bad on '06 with bikes running way too lean and add ons for exhaust systems to get them to pass EPA rules. '05s werent much better on running lean.
'06 comes with a reduced effort clutch. '07 is rumored to have bigger motors and 6 speed trany's

1999 & 2000 have cam bearing problems. 1999, 2000 and 2001 have Marelli fuel injector. Later models have the better Delpi fuel injector.

Okay ... sorry, that was rude. You're doing your research to find out what you need to satisfy yourself, but you may as well believe me. A '77 Sporty is just a beautiful as a brand spankin new bagger if you are the biker riding it. It is yours. Your blood sweat and tears went into it. That bike stands along with your wife or girfriend and all your bros and buds in the family photos. Its a Harley. If you are a biker you respect that attachment above any piece of chrome or 6-speed transmission. That's why I say, "Find one you like and make it yours."
