Go to my fav dealer the other day to order a new back rest for the old lady...i have a SG and I bought the medium upright for her, which was good cause it was in the middle of her back, then i went and changed my seat to the sundowner and the thing is now on her lower back. well she complained and i just didnt feel like hearing it, she is a good sport for riding with me, loves it now actually but didnt at first.
anyways go to the parts counter and i am ready to pay for the thing and just order it because i couldnt find any online, so i ask him if my pad and luggage rack would still fit it and just need the new bracket, and he comes back with "what kind of bike do you have?" i say a SG, and he says oh no man you dont want this it will make your bike look awful.
Ok, i have seen these tall back rests before on bikes and look ok, and the point is its my bike so i should be the only one who cares how it looks. this guy at the counter would not stop for 20 minutes how bad it would look so i just walked out mid convo....i love the dealer first issue with them. sorry for the rant but i guess they didnt watn the $150????? or whatever it costs from me....
any of this happen to you guys? sorry the long post
Yeah my normal parts guy does it every singel fricken time I go in there. He has an opinion on what I should get and what looks good on my bike and everything I usally just listen and tell him the same thing. He looks at me like a dog does when you yell at them (you know all weird head cocked) but I get what I need say thank you and move out. It is super hard to find a good dealer. So I am nice to these guys because there great to me. Check them out Cumming Harley Davidson FLint MI
I had a 2001 RK with an aftermarket backrest for wife. It came up to middle of her back and I could adjust it higher/lower with loosening 4 screws. She loved it over the short one H-D puts out that fits right in small of the back. That thing looks like it would be very uncomfortable on any trip. So I can see why you wanted to change.
It's your bike. He should have kept his mouth shut about how it would look.
You should have stopped him in mid conversation and asked, "Do you want to make some money off of me today or are you going to keep running your mouth and let me walk?"

But I tell you I love them and will always go to them even when I live up in the Thumb. Even two saturdays ago when it was DOWNPOURING I rode my bike there to get the thousand mile chekc up even though there are about four dealers closer.
