I always thought it was a no brainer running across these as well.........when its dry. Rain is a different story. Got my attention real quick!!!! Caution in the rain that's all.

Most that I've seen are slightly below the road surface.

Cross, stop, get off, look for rattlesnakes in the pit of the guard. Kill them and take their rattles...hang rattle somewhere on bike. Ride off...

All the cattle in Iowa are corn fed and too fat to walk.

Around here they have to walk to the next county to find any grass.

You sound like my wife worrying about every dip and bump in the road, just ride over it, what happens when you come upon an unexpected pot hole?

Agreed not normally a problem but...

...I was over in the Davis Mountains a couple weeks ago. I ran up to the top of the McDonald Observatory to watch the sun set with the old lady. After dark coming back to the State Park where we were camping they had a cattle guard across the entrance. The entrance was a right hand turn off the highway. It had rained earlier and the metal pipe was still wet and slick. My backend slid pretty damn easy. I caught it no problem but next time in I made sure to swing real wide and hit them head on.

Thanks for the advice and laughs.
The cattle guards were no problem and what a great ride.
