Default Warped Rotors..4300 miles

My 2008 Street Glide with 4300 miles (ABS) developed a chattering when using the front brakes. Dealer says both rotors were warped. Had no idea what caused this and ordered new ones. Any thoughts from anyone and is this common?

At 5000 miles my right side rotor was warped and they did the warranty thing pretty common they said.I asked why was it so common and what was the cause. The service tech kinda shrugged his shoulder and grunted...I took that as uh I dont know.

I recenty went for a tour at the Harley plant in York, PA. One thing that made me go humm, was a pallet full of brake rotors sitting next to the assembly line. On each box of rotors in big bold letters "Made in Japan".
I'm gussing that may be the issue.

This has been a common problem with the 08's. Not sure if they've improved the rotors for 09 or not but I havent heard any issues with folk riding an 09.

My front rotors feel warped on my '09 at 8k miles. Just before coming to a full stop, I can feel the pulsing (start/stop) consistent with warped rotors. It sounds as if the MOCO may warranty this item? That surprises me, as I thought it would be wear and tear (maintenance).

It's no different than you car....

If you have them HOT and hit a puddle of water, the sudden temp change will warp them instantly. THat's makes me cringe whenever I see someone drive right through a big puddle of water.

If that were the case I'm afraid half the bike would be falling apart.

I just changed my front rotors to HD chrome floating rotors. My rotors that I took off are fixed to the wheel (they developed a warp, minor but it's there and annoying). Consider that the fixed rotor turns inside a brake caliper that is fixed to the fork, the rotor can heat up and warp. The small amount that the floating rotor moves helps keep the rotor centered in the caliper. Just my spin on it. A car or truck caliper has sliders to keep it centered on the rotors, less issues. Can still warp but less likely to. I am more than pleased with the floating rotors and when the rear wheel comes off this winter for new rubber, it's also getting a chrome floating rotor.

Both my fronts warped (08 SG) last year around 4500 miles, dealer refused to warranty them. I've heard some dealers do, so good for you that got it covered, I didn't get that lucky. I think my dealer got pissed off when I bought up my bike, and he offered me one of those 'Screw it, let's ride' bandannas and I laughed at him....guess I should have sucked up and taken it in hindsight....but, truth be told, a buddy of mine bought a new RG day after I did, and he got his first service thrown in free, so it probably is the dealer's decision to warranty or not.
