I'm not the resident expert, but my understanding is that you should be able to just see over the top of the glass. So whether that is 6.5" or 9.5" only you would know.
wow, Rack-n-Rail, didn't mean to insult you. I figured there may be one of the current viewers that had acutally replaced their windshield and had some practical advise they could share. Since you apparently don't have any practical advice I will take your "it's a stupid question" as the best you can do.
For any others riders, I know they recommed about a 2" clearance to see over the windshield but in priactice does that work and give you the wind block you are looking for.
Whoa - take it easy - his "stupid opinion" statement appears to be part of his signiture line that appears on all posts - not directed at you.
I'm 6 foot tall with a 32 inch inseam riding your same bike. Started with the 6 1/2 inch Clearview and liked it but I cracked it one day putting it back on after some work inside the fairing. I now have the 8 inch with recurve and really like it. However, to be absolutely certain it's the right height for you, tape some pieces of cardboard of the same height as the shields you're considering onto your current shield and sit on the bike on a level surface to ensure you can comfortably look over the top.
if you haven't already pulled the trigger...you might investigate the Klock Werks windshield. I like mine. Deflects the wind well for rider and I believe it helps the buffeting you get behind a semi on the highway.
I had a 14" Clearview with a recurve, but then I purchased a Fastaire 10" dark smoke for like 32 bucks and I freakin love it. I have never taken it off. I love the way it looks and the functional aspect works for me. I have a 07 FLHT with lowers and it real works well for me. 6' tall and lanky, except the beer belly. For 30 bucks, its worth a shot. The shape at the top makes all the difference in my humble opinion.
9.5 should be the correct height for you. I am 6.1" and am running a 10.5", dark grey tint and I look over it fine. Go to the Clearview website and they have a way for you to measure. If I remember right you need to be sitting on the bike look at a point 25 ft in front of you and place a piece of tape right below this sight line. Go ride for a while and adjust accordingly. Then measure from the tape to the top of your faring. This is your size.
