Default 09 starter problem

At 3200 miles my 09 Street Glide starter switch seems to be stuck in the start mode. It engages the starter everytime I pull the clutch in to shift. When I take it in to the dealer what kinds of things should I be expecting them to change out? I'm worried the starter will now have abnormal wear on the starter gear and whatever it mates to. I suspect this is a problem with the starter switch on the handle bar rather than the starter itself.

I noticed the problem this past week once and thought I had hit the starter button, but it almost caused me to dump the bike. When I turned on the master switch it tried to start in gear and clutch out.

Starter solenoid is stuck engauged (the cause will need diagnosis). The starter will have excessive wear from this as it is probably engauged at all times.I would not ride the bike in this condition as it is unsafe and could lock up on you.Sounds as you have been riding it this way anyhow so if dealer is close just take it easy if no tow is available.Good luck

Just started tonight on the way home only about 3 miles from home. Before that was just the one time it engaged when first starting the bike and quite after started. I agree probably needs towed in to avoid more damage and dangerous lock up.

I had that problem on a WG I had and just pulled the wire off the starter terminal after the bike started and then rode it to the dealer. If yours has the plug on the starter motor you might try pulling it and see if you can get it to the dealer. Turned out that my handlebar switch was bad.

New handlebar starter switch fixed the problem! They said the starter gear was not damaged. I suspect I'll have to complain about the starter just before it goes out of warranty to make sure it wasn't prematurely worn.
