Default '05 RK in the shop

After washing my RK last eve, it would not run well (at all actually) - acted like plugs or some sort of ignition problem. Looked at the plugs, looked fouled (carbon) so I replaced them this morning. Still runs like it's way outta time. Check diags and found historical code 373 - crank position sensor. Is this a coincidence or did I do something washing the bike?

You probably have water inside one of the connectors. Try using a leafblower or open up the side covers and let it sit in the sun for a day or so to dry. I, personally, don't like using any kind of strong water jets on the bike. Because the electronics and wire connectors can get wet. This will affect the timing.

Do you have a power commander or anything like it? The exact same thing happend to me when I washed my bike. I pulled off the right panel and checked the power commander plugs, and one was full of water. I unhooked it, dried it and everything is A-OK now. I've since wrapped the plugged to prevent this.

Welps, the diagnostic code reader did the right diagnosis - call it coincidence or whatever, the crank position sensor was kaput! They believed the 0373 code, stuck in a new one and, it worked! Hopefully covered under HD's 2 yr warranty (or else I will be a bit p.o.'d). I'll bill my insurance company for the tow to the shop.

Well - got the RK back from the shop today - and, interestly enough, it really was WATER, and NOT the crank positioning sensor. The mechanic read the 373 code which said replace the crank sensor, but, he also checked out the big Power Commander plug under the right cover. The plug was filled with at least a cup of good ol' H2O! Dangit, I should have checked it. Anyway - a plug for M&S Harley of Chambersburg - no charge for the tow into their shop or the time it took to fix the bike - they said it could happen to anybody. I contributed to their pizza fund as I was truly humbled!
