Engine Mounts FL's
I just picked up my Street Glide from the dealership. It is worse than when I brought it in. Not the dealers fault. Harley has opted for a quick fix that doesn't work. This is my third motor mount. The first one went at 450 miles, this one at 3,600. The new mount is stiffer and has a metal washer attached. You can't use the mirrors at 2000 rpm regardless of speed or gear due to the vibration. If you use brakes while at a stop light the vibration will shake your glasses off. Using your brakes to stop causes major vibration as you begin to slow. Trust me; it's worse than when my motor mount was totally collapsed.
This is the only replacement motor mount available for all FLH type bikes. There are no older type mounts left in the system. My dealership has several bikes in the shop waiting for the dealer rep who will be in tomorrow or Friday.
It is apparent that Harley has a problem with motor mounts not holding up. It is also apparent that they have gone with a non tested quick fix that doesn’t work. There are several Road Kings and another Street Glide in with the same problem. Trust me when I tell you to stay with a collapsed mount rather than the new replacement.
Background; not sour grapes as the dealership is not the problem. This is my third Harley. I rode police HD bikes for years, retired now at 63 years old.
Forgot to add, the new mount is a replacement part. It is not what is currently being installed at the factory.
