Default Do we have any Purist here?

I must confess, I have always like to keep things as simple as possible and us OEM parts and accessories for a long time.

I am now a first time owner of a '03 Ultra Classic and I'm wondering if this will persuade me to change my accessory buying habits.
Even though my '03 Ultral Classic is not currently stock, I feel compelled to return it to factory stock condition.

To each their own---by all means, but if you wanted a stock bike, why not just buy a stock bike?

What all do you have on it?

Well, first of all I got this bike because I thought it was a good deal and had to do a trade to afford my '03 Ultra Classic. Being a 100% disabled veteran, I have to be frugal with my money.

Don't get me wrong, I really like my bike. Especially the way the tour pack forward design is since I always ride solo.

The bike has a narrow style Corbin seat on it and I was attempting to remove the quick release that holds the trunk on it and discovered it will not come off the way it's designed to because of the Corbin seat. It has to be unbolted from the side near the shock. But before I discovered that I scratched the rear fender up pretty good because I wasn't as careful as I should have been and I was pretty aggravated by the time I got to that point.

I might add that the Corbin seat is too narrow and firm for me so I'll be looking to change it.

These are some of the reasons why I like to use OEM style accessories.

I have an 03 Heritage Classic Gunmetal Pearl with the gold key package.

I have installed a few of the frills from the package but not all.

I also have a SE 95ci, SE 203 cams, SE AC, and the SE tapered torque slipons to retain the original look.

From the outside she looks pretty close to stock.

In about 50 years if I keep her looking like this she should be worth quite a bit. But by then she will have 4 or 5 hundred K on her.

You won't find too many stock bikes around here. They tend to morph into something a little diferent within about a year of purchase, sometimes way sooner. However if what makes your scoot comfortable for you is to go back to stock, then by all means do so and do it with enjoyement and pride. Everyone here dances to his/her own tune and that is the way it should be.

Whaetver you do, please keep sharing with the good folks here, glad to have you around, and a particular word of thanks for the sacrifices you've made for your country and your way of life.

Well I'll tell ya one thing, new stock take off parts for sale abound on ebay and everywhere else so it's not hard to pick 'em up cheap.
I have two extra brand new windshields for my E-Glide and an extra set of footboards too.
On my third stock seat now (bike has 110,000 miles) and paid less for the two replacements including one with the tourpac backrest than what the seat alone cost from H/D.
Pennys on the dollar compared to buying at the dealer.

That will get very expensive. First you'll return it completely to stock. Then you will customize it with things that you decide you want. One way or another you WILL make it your own.

I need to clarify my original statement. I really didn't mean I didn't like acessories. I was trying to say that I will buy Harley Davidson accessories because they are designed to fit correctly and work the way they are designed to work.

The example I was trying to use was the fact that I couldn't remove the quick release trunk because of the seat.

I heard somewhere that a purist was someone who hunted a grizzly bear with a stick.

I don't think there are too many of those guys left, but reading your posts, I agree that I am a lot like you. I don't venture too far to the radical side. In my opinion, its alright to stray away from the factory accessories. There is some aftermarket stuff out there that is made just as well, if not better, and costs substantially less. Just think of the bike being "stock" as you bought it. After all, for you, those are the original parts that came with the bike. Now, the challenge is to find the things that make you comfortable and bring the bike up to your standards. That is the fun of it. By the way, that is a gorgeous bike. Good luck.
