A buddy told me he punched out his stock pipes and installed a high flow air filter. Brought the bike to his dealer and the head tech told him that he would reflash the ECM for the Stage 1 Kit. Tech said that a fuel management device was not needed....I think he's crazy myself,,,
Buddy says the bike is running a lot cooler now.....I always thought the the reflash just brought the bike back to the same lean condition as stock and within EPA regulations..
I noticed riding behind him today that the pipes were doing a lot of popping....
I'm with Izzo on this one - the ECM flash (i.e. HD download) has worked well for me with these types of minor modifications. It might be that an aftermarket fuel manager would squeak out a bit more performance, but why not go the easy route that accomplishes much of the same goal?
yep a Stage 1 flash will help you out quite a bit it is a step in the right direction some folks stop there with the addition of a high flow A/C and pipes like you mentioned gotta let those puppies breath
I ran my 06 RK Classic with the SE air intake and slip on exhaust and just the flash for 2 1/2 years. However, I didn't really know how well the motor could run until I installed a PCIII. Fuel Moto USA (HD forums sponsor I believe) uploaded a good "flash" and I had it installed in just a few days.
Installed the SE Ventilator AC and my big radius pipes towards the beginning of summer. Just used a stage 1 download since I'm going to get into the engine and cams over the winter and didn't really want to dyno it twice. So far I haven't had any issues at all. I'm sure I could dial it ina little better with some fuel managemen, but It's good enough until I do the serious work.
my deuce had a download and poped like crazy on decel. i hated it.
my 04 ultra has a sert, guess what no pops.
gonna go that route again my 2010 limited.
