Head temp. sensor was my thinking also, as my 97 FLHRKI had some of the
same symptons plus some. It would set a code most of the time. Bought a
code reader from one of my stealers, after the other said that was a stealer
item ONLY and I could not purchase it. One LED light, and $50. later it was
mine. Code came back to head sensor.
A couple or three yrs. ago, about a HD (hundred dollars)
After reading the book, said to raise the tank. NO THANKS!
I used a pair of hemostats and a small screw drive to overcome the lock
and then with a combination of deep well sockets and (maybe)a 4in. extension.
That baby was in hand, and installation was reverse of removal.....Tenn.Vol.
I have the same problem going on with my bike right now. It revs up to about 13-1400 rpms when it is going to have the misfire and no power. Usually I rev it up a few times and it levels out. I know it is gone when the rpm's drop back to 900. Did the head temp sensor repair the problem? I checked the hoses in my tank and didn't find any issues. Thanks for the help!

Today though it just isnt running right. When I get on the gas it really hesitates and seems like the engine is missing. Also I noticed that at idle my rpms went from about 800 rpm to about 1300 rpm. When I give it gas either stationary or to speed up, the engine just falls on its face. So far I pulled the spark plugs and they looked good and I also put some heet in the gas tank to eliminate the possibility of moisture in the gas. Any Ideas what the problem could be? Possible dirty fuel filter?
Head temp sensor fixed it for me. I ran about a thousand miles now since I changed it and its running good. Fairly easy fix. I had to lift the fuel tank about an inch or two so I could get in there to work. Cost me about $100 from the stealer.
Thanks for the response. This is the kind of thing that makes these forums work so well. I ordered mine online from Bikebandit.com for $43 I was told they have the best prices on genuine Harley parts.
Thanks again!
