Whats the problem with the old hinge, are they breaking or is this just a bling thing. I agree they do look good.
Mine started a thump/bump noise that I barely noticed at first. Then after a few weeks I could not find it and it continued to get abit louder. Sounded like plastic more than metal. Took off everything I could. Went over bike with a rubber mallet on the stand and found nothing.
Then one day one of my roadies being a smartazz told me to wrap a bungee cord around it and see if it stops it. He said it sounded like the tour pack. I did, and lo-n-behold it stopped it!!!!!! WHALA!!!! New hinges on the way!!!
Backed into a parking slot along with 20 other baggers today. ONE GUY had these new hinges installed.
Quite impressive seeing all the tourpaks and THIS ONE stands out.
I thought this was another $50 HD gimmick.
NO WAY. These hinges look GREAT!!!!
I do fully agree!!!! I was at the Bean Blossom rally this past weekend and there were several other baggers in the area and the comment kept coming up about the hinges of how much better they look over the stock ones. I was asked if I upgraded for the look or for increased durability. I said both.
You really don't think they make that much of a difference until you do it.
Do anyone knows if the hinges can work on the Police Saddle Bags? It looks like it will look alot better than the current hinges.
It's unlikely that they will work. I say that because Richard Pomeroy makes a beautiful chromed stainless latch for tour paks and for police saddlebags, but the two are different--I don't know how they are different; only that he sells two different products for the two applications.
Shoot him an email and ask him the difference--can't hurt to ask: dickelk@aol.com. His police hinge kit is $172.50 for four hinges.
Got them installed! Took about 25 minutes. Had the wife hold the lid while I screw the hinge, would be tough doing it youself without someone holding the lid.
