I will tell you my secret instead, I spent a very short six months as a car salesman for a giant dealership when I was younger. There is probably a special place for car salesman/harley salesmen in hell. Don't be fooled these guys are better trained than the average attorney, yeah they play stupid but that is just a trick. The best way, is to be willing to walk. Just let them know that you will walk away if they will not accept a fair deal. If they don't accept a fair offer, then walk. They can smell it, if you won't walk they will know it and refuse to back down. I think that is my trick, I offer a fair price, if it can't be done I will walk. Most of the time we can come to a compromise.
My wife hates to shop with me, she will immediatley fall in love with things (especially cars and bikes) I will be indifferent and tell them no deal. She gets crushed, I just wait for another day.

I like the picture with the "Sold" sign on the bike. Reminds me of the feeling I had the day I went it to pick mine up. First time I had seen it and to know the "Sold" was for me, that was pretty cool. Congrats on the new ride.

Thanks, you know it was funny, it took like a day and a half to get everything closed out. The whole time the bike sat near the front door with the sold sign and my name on it. It was the last E-Glide there, everyone circled around it and looked at her over and over. I just hung out and whenever I got the chance I let whomever was staring at the time know she was mine. Amazing how the beauty of a bike will cause people to come up to it and just stare. That is how I know whether or not I chose the right color etc, how long people stare at her. As soon as my name went on that sign, no one, and I mean NO ONE sat on her again. I didn't really care who might have sat on her in the past, but as soon as she was mine, no one could touch her.
Congrats. It pays to know the facts. Some other guy who wasn't educated on the MSRP of a particular bike might have thought they were getting a deal at $25K. It sounds like you showed restraint on the smart@ss when he told you the MSRP was $26K. When I was looking for my new Dodge Quad Cab I drove past one on a lot, but didn't have time to stop. I called from my cell and got some punk sales guy. When I asked him the price of the truck he said $50K. I told him to get F'd. He called me back (damn Caller ID) and apologized. I told him to get F'd again and quit wasting my time.
