My top end clatter is a lot louder "all day long" if I don't let my engine warm up first.
I typically let my SG idle for a couple minutes until it is warmed up. I can tell its ready when the engine idle drops a few rpms. I ride off and she run great all day long.
But once in a while I need to take off without waiting to warm up. When I do that, the engine wants to idle at 1500 rpms or around there for about five minutes when I come to a stop. I've never really worried about it, I don't run the engine hard and I just thought I confused the computer or something.
The strange part is I get louder top end clatter when I don't let the engine warm up first and it "stays loud all day long". I don't get near the same clatter when I give it a good warm up first.
Can someone explain that? Shouldn't be an oil issue, has to do something with the computer I would think. Timing maybe?
Welcome to Harley riding!!!!! I wish I could explain half the stuff my Harley does. Love it of course..but I don't question the noises anymore. It is what it is
