Rev limiter
I have had my bike for just over a year now and I have NEVER hit the rey limiter. I can't even understand how one would rev the engine so high as to do this. WHY? WHY? WHY? would ANYONE want to rev thier engine that high? I have been a mechanic for over 20yrs. and other racing, what is the purpose of doing this. Just to see what the engine will stand? Someone explain it to me,cause I don't get it.
Why get a 96" motor if you're never gonna stretch it out a little? I just went out again and this seems to be related to throttle position(wide open) and not the rev limiter. I have read about problems with Terminal Velocity tuners and TPS. I should have listened to the feedback and stayed with a power commander.
im evil with my HD.. - if i would hit 5500RPM, even though i would still be WOT, the RPM would bounce from about 4900-5500RPM - feels like it is running out of fuel... but never got into so called "limp Mode"...even though i have the Stage 1 from HD and PCV. i still programmed the Rev limit enabled, dont see why i need to go to 6200RPM with stock motor even with the stage 1 download. i enjoy the high rev and fast starts. feeling.. coming from a sport bike...it just feels and sounds great... i have the extended warranty.. so why not. !!... i usually shift in the 4500RPM range when i want to play when i merge onto a highway or pass a cage..i do mostly stay between 2-3200k for regular driving habits....its my first HD.. are not these motors tough ??
go to do some reading - what is LIMP MODE ? is this when engine light comes on ?

I have an 09 Ultra with the 103 and this morning I was getting on it pretty hard and hit the right turn signal but bumped the kill switch and it went into limp mode. The switch didn't go to off but just a bump. All I got from the engine was a putt-putt-putt like it was on one cylinder and wouldn't rev. Igot off to the side of the road and went thru the clearing procedure 3 times before it returned to normal. I'm not sure I was doing it right but seemed like I was supposed to turn the ign sw off and on 5 times. Important thing is, I got it running right and continued to have a good ride in these pretty Tennessee mountains.

1. Most of the time I'm concentrating on the road and not my gauges.
2. I'm used to my two previous BMW K-bikes' power, and this pig is S----L----O----W!!
3. If the motor couldn't take it, the limiter would be lower.
4. Harleys sound GREAT at high RPM.
I will admit, however, that the bike really doesn't pull that hard over 5k rpm. But when I'm in the middle of a fast sweeper at WOT sometimes I don't want to shift. The new frames handle so amazingly well compared to the older generation. I have no fear of the bike getting upset in the corners any more. The only real excitement is when the bike bottoms out on the floor board mounts at full lean. Makes ya pucker from time to time... Scraping the floor boards is no big deal cause they flex. But those mounts are solid and take weight off the rear tire :0
