Heading down on wednesday and leaving friday. First time for the bike week but many other visits. Great crab house.....PGN on 29th st. good crabs, spiced shrimp ad the best crab cake hoagies
For those coming to Delmarva Bike Week from north consider running DE Route 9 as opposed to DE 1. I suggest stop at Mikes Famous H-D in New Castle and catch Route 9 from there. Take a peak at downtown New Castle old colonial town with charm. Come down to Delaware City and check it out. Route is scenic from there south. There is a real hole-in-the-wall biker bar called the Augustine Inn just south of Port Penn. The guy has lost his liquor license but if you buy a souvenir nail (from the colonial era inn) he will share a beer with you. Real nice views of wetlands, marshes, waterfowl, Delaware River along the way. Popular crab place in Leipsic is Sambos with nice water views. Coming Route 9 also allows you to visit museum at Dover Airforce Base if you have time.
Route 9 puts you back on Hwy. 1 just below Dover and it is easy cruising to Ocean City.
Since people have been recommending eateries here are a couple:
Lilys Thai Restaurant in Rehoboth on First Street (no liquor license yet but you can bring your own. Or eat lunch and then go down to Dogfish Head for microbrew).
Fish Tales in Ocean City at 22nd Street Bayside (I highly recommend this place. It is not able to be seen from street but worth noting address and getting there.)
I would say also do Seacrets. It may be yuppie at other times but it is chock full of bike week people at bike week. It is a cool set up with palm trees and in water seating.
Here is hoping the weather will be good. Look forward to seeing everyone.
Rt. 9 ride is good advice, however beware with all the rain we have had there are at least 3 places where the road is washed out, two of them are pretty well hidden on the south side of a bridge (don't ask how I know, that is another story). The areas are usually indicated by a "water on road" sign, however the locals think it's cute to remove the signs.
The only thing Grotto's has thats good is there cheese fries.
Harborside is ok but those orange crushes are expensive.
I will be at Smitty Magees in Fenwick Island
I lived in OC for 8 years and my son got married on the beach this summer. He told me Smitty's took down the wall of flame. My son got on the wall when he was 6 years old. Great oyster shooters!!!!! Second vote for Bull on the Beach. Love those steamed shrimp!!!
I'm heading down from Brooklyn Friday evening. If anyone else is on a similar schedule let me know, We'd be happy to have a few riding partners on the way down.
The weather forcast has changed for the better. Looks like it's shaping up to be a great weekend.
Yeah I saw that. Looks like my plans changed too. Don't have to work Saturday now so we are heading down Friday night and coming back Sunday morning. Prolly gonna crash with some friends staying at the Sea Scape in OC on 15th St.
Leaving Thursday, coming back Sunday. I wanted to ride over from Southern MD., but I just bought a 2010 40' Raptor Toy Hauler and need to try it out. I'll be at the Castaway Camp Ground off Eagles Neck Rd toward Assetteague. Come on by and I'll by you a Bud Light.
