Let us know how it turns out. I have never been into a HD motor yet but as an old timer mechanic on cars sounds like Valve Guide Seals to me. But like I said I have never been into these engines so I don't know what the Valve train looks like.
Smoke on decel usually is a valve guide, valve seal issue but only the left pipe doesn't make sense.
I kinda understated the smoke. The rt pipe on a scale of 1-10 would be considered to be smoking at a 2. The Left pipe would be a 10. Almost all the smoke is coming from the left exhaust based on what the other were telling me. I never let anyone ride so I could ride behind and see for myself. Could be the rear cylinder has a bad valve seal/guide and the front cylinder doesn't? FIIK
Were you running the engine hard before decel? Excess oil could have accumulated in the rockers. Shutting down the throttle quickly causes a vacuum in the intake - air (oil) is pulled down through the guide to that cylinder. Seals are there to prevent that but (air leak) like if you had excess oil in the rocker the seal might have leaked.
It might be normal - depends how hard you were working the engine and what RPM when you suddenly closed the throttle. If the engine is burning oil at steady RPM then your intake seals are most likely leaking on that cylinder's intake valve.
I wasn't riding it any harder than the other 8 HDs in the pack of 9 in my mountain trip group. I was the only one smoking/buring oil and mine is the newest bike... an 09!
rpm's have not been above 4K but they were taching anywhere from 3000-3500 downhill w/o any throttle input which is went I was alerted it was smoking...

I have an 09 with stock exhaust. It's 2-1-2, so I think the amount of smoke from one side or the other would not be a very good indicator as to which, if only one, cylinder is burning the oil.
Well I haven't made it to the dealer yet but it's going in this week. The dealer was closed today so tomorrow I'm calling to see if I can bring it in... I just got home from testing it. I wanted to ride it to replicate the decel oil burning problem on level ground before taking it to the dealer so I wouldn't have an issue with the dealer saying they couldn't find anything wrong and I was successful. The bike smokes it's *** off on decel in 1st and 2nd gear on decel from 4-5K rpm. It doesn't smoke after initially letting off the throttle but once the rpms come down to around 2-3 the smoke rolls out the pipes... I had a buddy riding behind me and he could smell the oil while I was riding with and without it smoking and I too could smell it while riding... I definitely have a problem! We both came back from the short ride with the smell of oil in our clothes!
