I have an 08 SG and I am installing a GPS. I took off the ferring and saw 2 wires that come off the headlight harness (1 having a red safety cap other black wire) I tested this with a volt meter and its hot when the ignition is turned on my question is can I use this as my power or is it designed for another use?
As long as you've got it cracked open, it's not much to hook it to the ACC switch wiring. I can't remember which wire was in/out, but I remember that it was very obvious. That way, you can at least kill the power to the plug when it's not in use.

ACC switch wiring:
Orange/Rede = 12V when ignition on
Orange = 12V when ignition and ACC switch on
Black = ground
I'm not sure why you'd want an additional switch (i.e. ACC) to power the GPS on/off since it has its own power switch.
I took a simpler approach.
I just solider wires on to the back of the cigarette light in the fairing.
on the back of the cigarette light inside the fair, I believe center is hot ..
