Default Downshifting problem

I am new to my 99 Ultra and had a quick question. I have noticed that when I am downshifting, unless I stomp on it fairly hard, I run the risk of the gears going essentially into neutral. This has no bearing on where I am in the chain. I could be going from 5th to 4th, 4th to 3rd, etc, and if I don't give it just enough boot it slips into neutral without going into neutral....if you can understand that. I have to hit it again to hit the gear I was looking for. Should I be worried about this?

Sounds as though your shifter drum needs an adjustment...

Quite a PITA, but doable....

Get a svc manual, you will need it.....
