Default Lock for detatchable Tour pak

Is there a product out there for locking a detachable tour pak? It only takes 5 secs. to steal mine.

monster...er...garemlin should be along in a bit he has a pic of a lock he used to lock his detach otherwise, just pm him and I'm sure he would send you the pic. It's just a padlock purchased from wally world but it's kinda hard to explain it's location for lock placement w/o a pic.

dont even bother with the stealer lock bs. I just run a cable lock (master bike lock 10 bucks mabye) and pass thru the rack and then go thru some part of the frame under and then keep it under the seat. my ultra is black and my cable is black so you can hardly notice it. good luck.

I had one of those on my Ultra, and let me tell you its as secure as anything else (including padlocks and rigging up cable locks. Once that thing is latched, there is no getting that quick detach off unless they unbolt your docking kit attached to your bike. In that case, remember to lock your saddlebags. If they can take them off, they can take your trunk as well.

So that $46.95 spent on the lock was worth every penny. It made me sleep a hell of a lot better at night when my bike was parked in a parking lot or somewhere other then my storage shed.

Every bike I own from now on that has something with a quick detach, will get one of these I can promise you.

i'm not sure they are all that secure, i've had mine for a while, and the one i put on my sissy bar had an issue with the lock mechanism. The inner spring loaded button flew out when trying to unlock it, and it wouldn't come off. since i couldn't get it unlocked, i just grabbed a pair of Big Azz channellocks, squeezed the button until i crushed the lockset, and it came right off. Like most security forms, they will slow down the opportunist, but not the guy that really wants to steal your ****

That's pretty much true with any lock, isn't it? You just do what you can and hope for the best.

I have a detacable tourpak and also a passenger backrest. I was just going to get one pair and put one lock on each. I figure you have to unlock both sides to steal them.

I have been thinking about this ever since I got mine. I think padlocks and chains and cables are good things, but there must be some other ways. I have been thinking about looking to see if there are a set of dry contacts so that you could hook up a microswitch to set off the alarm. I think the second the latch moves, the alarm would send the creep packing. If I get a few minutes, I intend to dig into the alarm schematic and see what we can come up with. I can't imagine there isn't a way to put a pin or something to keep the cams from turning as well. I guess if someone really wants the things they will take them anyway. Ken
