Default Engine Guard Footpeg Mounting Kit Question

Hey everyone. I just bought the HD "Chrome Billet Engine Guard Footpeg Mounting Kit" (part 50957-02A) and am about to mount them to my '06 RG.

Once they're mounted and tight are they going to mark up the engine guard? What if I have my riding position set for a few weeks but decide I'd like to adjust them to go up or down will there be lines, dents, dings or scratches worked into the engine guard from these brackets? Does anybody put some kind of tape or something in between the mounting kit and guard to reduce marks on the guard?

Thanks.

Chrome marks real easy when ya start movin' stuff around, try painters tape until ya get em' exact.

EZ,
installed the same gear about two weeks ago. I kept them where I had em at install. however i pulled them off to show a buddy of mine and yes there is a distinct line where they "live" now.

I have the same billet mounts. Kept mine in one spot for a couple months, then moved when I changed my seat.

Mine left no marks whatsoever. Must be the differences in bar types.

Ive had no problem with marks on mine. I seem to like different positions, so about every 3 months or so i move em up or down or even turn them in or out. In fact i am going to flip them so the pegs are forward of the bar, increasing the reach so to speak...tonight. I just give them a quick polishing and the line is gone.
