Yeh, it was just a quick calc, not precise. I'll make a run this evening and be as precise as I can. I had thought of that also, plus wondering if the fuel guage could be off.
Fuel gauges are always off. The ONLY way to calculate MPG is divide your ACTUAL number of miles driven by the ACTUAL gallons you put in the tank. My gauge shows full after I've gone 80 miles. If that were only true....
Having said that, I'll never believe any of these 50 mpg stories I read here. Those dudes must weigh 100 lbs and ride with a 80 mph tail wind all day. 35-40 seems to be about average depending on your riding style.
Doesn't that kit come with a Baker Speedometer recalibration box? Is that installed and recalibrated?
The speedo recalibration module is an additional cost. Yes, I have it installed and set according to wife's mini van. I also passed through an area where the county sheriff's department had two of those signs telling you your current speed. They showed about a mile difference between the two, but were right on with how my speedo is set now.
Would anyone know if FuelMoto gives discount to HD Forum members? Also, I'm not sure but seems like I read somewhere that you should have a dyno run also, not just use the Power Commander unit?
yeah, i do believe that you need to reset your trip meter on the speedo when you fill up, and go riding to get an accurate measurement on miles per gallons when you stop to refill. you should be getting anywhere from 37 to 45, as a ballpark figure. if not, then it may be time to take it to an indy, or the dealer to get it figured out.
Just got in... I ran 149.2 miles, and burned 3.287 gallons. That looks like 45.39 miles per gallon. That was mostly rural driving, about 1/4 in town, and about 20 miles on the highway doing 70-75. The rest was doing 45-55 mph. Nuthin beats doin proper math, eh?
That sounds way better. I have a 00EGC, true duals, PCIII, SS 510G cams, AC kit and a dyno run, I just got back from a trip to Mass and averaged right about 38MPG running around 70.
One last note... FuelMoto doesn't give discounts OR match prices. I did order the PC3 from them which was just slightly over what I had found on another website. I'm not complaining, it just sucks when a dealer knows they have a product that we'll pay for! Anyway, it should be here in a few days.
