I cant believe I read this whole thing. I was curious. I am now dismayed. I have only been riding for 44 years. Never heard of such a thing.
Get back was a finger and a throttle and a gun check. A pssy pulls a knife or a chain or a "whip". What is the old saying? Don't bring a whip to a gunfight.
This is a new wave fashion statement. It is kind of cool just not my style. I don't like fringe or studs or tassels, on my shoes or my bike. To each their own. To make this anything more than a fashion statement is a joke.
In my opinion it is an affectation, like a Dowee rag or a 3 piece Pig patch. LOOK AT ME. Mark my words, HD will have these in stock at the dealers before long.
This is not a club thing or an old school thing it is a new fad. Ape hangers to drag bars, flake to matte, jean jacket to leather vest, boots to sneakers, Chrome to black, it is fashion. It wont last long, get a haircut. My 2 pennies. Wish I had thought of it, this and the pet rock.
First time I saw one was almost 20 years ago. Haven't seen many of them but I will add that the guys I did see with em, looked more like the type that would have shot you just as quick as they would have done anything else.
Since this thread is full of opinions....there is one reason for putting a whip on your bike: You are playing the part. You want the masses to see you as a bad *** stereotypical biker and the whip is just as important as the chaps, doorags, chain wallet, pig sticker, goatee, tattoos, etc....I dont mean that if you own one or more of those items that you are not a "biker". Im saying there are a lot of guys out there that wear a buisness suit from monday through friday and on Saturday don the uniform (complete with whip) and become Frankie Felon. Owning a bike shouldnt change how you dress, act, or what you do with tour time and if it does, you are way too impressionable, and a little pathetic. JMO.....be YOU, not Frankie
Scarlet & Gold are the colors of the USMC!! Was the first thing a old DI told me as soon as my *** stepped off the bus at MCRD San Diego lol Did my 20 and retired as a GySgt. My oldest is training at Ft.Sill now
clubs really dont use them any more...get whatever color that matches your bike. i have one thats black and silver...i dont know whos colors they are, and i dont really give a ****. you reall think some biker is going to get pissed at you if you have a red and white bike and you have a red and white whip? i doubt it
most clubs are not that concerned about the whip color. i run a whip but not all the time, i do have mine so that it just about 2'' off ground when clipped to the handlebars. i never had aproblem with it getting in the way. although once it came up and slapped the GF on the back. i had to laugh but my kidneys took a beating lol.
