There's a history behind these "Getback Whips". Back in the day, you'd see bikers hanging whips from their clutch or brake levers as they rode. The leather whips were usually made from the biker's club colors. But the whips were used for a whole lot more than just showing off the club colors. The whip could be quickly released and used "in case of emergency" to swing at anything that was causing a threat to the biker, hence the name "Get Back Whip". Whips attract attention and help catch the eye of other drivers. Today the whips are used for asthetic reasons, colors are choosen to match the bikes. Whips will fan out while riding, will not slap rider or passenger. Whips are handmade in the USA from the same full grain upholstery leather we use in all our braided products. The leather is braided around a nylon core to give them body and help them resist slapping you
cool......

I think the whips look cool on some bikes, but if a problem arives I carry a kel-tec 380, not the biggest bang but I wouldnt want to get shot with anything, I have much larger handguns but this little gun is easy to hide..

Not a member of any club nor do I want to be, 23 years of Army rules was enough for me. I like the Lone Wolf status.

Thank you for asking the question. I thought I was the only stupid one on here. I've only been riding for like 40 years.

Funny thing is, most of the guys that have been ridin' 20, 30, 40 years ain't never heard of these. Maybe when they say "back in the day" they're talking like a long, long time ago, ya know, like back in the late 90's, maybe even back way further when dinosaurs ruled the earth and the twin-cam hadn't come out yet, you know, the early 90's!!!!

For all you old-timers who like to try to say unless I heard about it, it didn't happen......

Chances are, unless you were an 1% MC member or support club, you wouldn't have known about them even "back when."

A get-back whip was/is used as a weapon especially when equipped with a heavy brass spring-clip on the business end of the whip. They aren't classified as a "weapon" so the cops can't arrest you for carrying one. Just as a six-cell maglite flashlite isn't classified as a weapon. But both, when used correctly, can cause some serious damage.

Here in north Texas, I can attest that many of the members of the 1% MC and support groups carry get-back whips. Attend one of the COC or United Federation of Clubs monthly meetings in the State of Texas and see what I'm talking about.

I think the confusion here is that many people, no matter how old you are or how long you have been riding, don't really know what the whips are or at least how they originated. Some are still calling them "tassels". There are many people attaching "tassels" to their bikes now because they think it looks cool.

It's kinda like a ball cap was designed to keep sun off your face and out of your eyes. The way many kids wear them today, it serves no purpose except maybe to keep the sun off the side or back of their necks. And make them look cool in their eyes.
