Doesnt matter. I do it both ways. jiffy, sit, stand, side of it, drinking a beer, etc. (oops, more than both or two) must be the beer.

Mine actually wobbled forward enough to fall OVER while idling on the kickstand. It was parked across the fall line of a sloping parking lot, but apparently I didn't gauge the slope correctly.

So, unless the bike is POSITIVELY pointed uphill, I will not let it run without me sitting on it.

The stand on my bike just looks wrong and has too much fore/aft slop in it. Gotta jack the bike and see what's up with that POS.

I start it on the kickstand 99% of the time, however; if I am already suited up and the bike is warm I will just get on the bike start it and go.

99% of the time I start mine on the stand... Like the others said she lurches forward but then just purrs along. I do like to warm it up before taking off. Is it necessary.. probably not.

Always on the stand if the first start of the day. Check for neutral, pull in the clutch & fire up. Then I check the brake, headlight and turn signal function.

This, squeeze the clutch lever and fire her up.

if i read your post correctly, the jiffy stand did not give way, instead your bike fell over on the right side because of how you parked it? and this is somehow the jiffy stands fault?

if you look at your stand, there is a tab at the top which is engaged when you tilt the bike over before you get off. so you have 850 lbs holding the jiffy stand in place. kinda hard for it to work its way loose without your help.

now the center stand, on the other hand that is a different story.

From the first day Harleys were ever parked in my garage they have all been started on the kickstand. Many reasons why? Friends want to hear them run, drinking, catching a buzz, mainly just because I crave that sound! My bikes when parked are always in neutral,100% of the time.
