Default Driver Backrest question...

I purchased a driver back rest a couple a of months ago and had to take it off...it pushes me too far forward in the saddle, I've adjusted it all the way back but I think the legs need to be tweeked a bit to push the back rest BACK a bit further...I'm 6'3" and need as much room as I can get.

I have the same problem. I'm curious as to how others have solved it.

If you bought the adjustable H-D backrest then you can grind out a little of the slots that the backrest rides in and also the end of the actuator and get more lean on the backrest.

Good luck!

I think that BountyHunter has the answer for you guys on this. As him to post the details on what he did to his. I think that he is 6' 3" too.

Indeed, took the backrest apart and bent the support rods back with heat. I also set the backrest DOWN as low as it will go. You can see the angle in the pic.

I torched the weld points 95% off between the box and the mounting 'wings', then pushed the box all the way back so the wings were flat. Re-welded. I also had to make a new support strap (longer) out of some flat stock. I have to paint the mount b/c the annodized coating burned off, but that little mod just rocks. Not sure why HD didn't do this. Seems there's too much foward range and not near enough backward range.

I just shimmed the front mounting points with a nut, some washers and a longer bolt. It moved the top of the backrest back about an inch and a half.
