I woundn't mind sitting the mount a little lower under the seat, I had to put the grab strap back on or it looked bad with a gap open! I'm 6'2" and agree that all the adjustment is forward, I took the padded backrest part put it in a vise and bent the angle on the backrest some more took two tries but now I can lean back and sometimes even bring it forward a 5min fix that worked wonders for me and was easy with a big hammer

I had thought of the "Vice and hammer" tweeking method but wanted to find out if there was another way around this problem...guess not.

Tried the shim method but the forward link would not reach it's termination; would work but would have needed to machine out a longer link.

Not sure what HD was thinking when they made or approved this backrest? It has WAY too much forward adjustment? Looking at the installation directions it seems that there are many HD models that this can be fitted. May fit some better than others.

So it's off to the vice I go!

I bent the piece that comes off the front of the mounting bracket down a little. When bolted to the extention piece, it lifts the front side. Then I put 2 washers under the mounting bracket to keep the wings from getting cranked down onto the fender. Seemed to move the top of the backrest back just enough. I'll try it out tomorrow on the road and keep you updated. I think the dealer is trying to fit it on too many different bikes. For what they charge, I shouldn't have to EVER bring out the sledge.

i just installed mine yesterday and can say that itll be comfy (although i didnt take it for a 'test' ride)

i do have a question though.... the forward most bracket (black piece thats bolted to the mount)- where the hell does that bolt to?

theres only one place for it to bolt to (looks like the battery box maybe) but theres only a hole there.... any thoughts?

Mine came with a little clip nut that I slid over the hole in what might be the battery box and cranked it down. Feels pretty sturdy to me.

Guys, I am 6'4" and some change. I agree that the backrest has alot more forward adjustment than rearward. Initially, I too thought that the backrest was too far forward. After riding a few hours, I decided I might be mistaken. I sit pretty much straight up, which seems to help out on the aches and pains.
