Default Riders Backrest Bend

Hey all I have read a bunch of posts about bending that worthless riders backrest that I just paid $200+ for but I am a little unsure where to make the bend. I have the non adjustable with the rods. How far up the rods do I make the bend closer to the backrest or closser to the bottom.

Thanks
Phil

I made mine closer to the back rest with my brother-in-law's breaker machine at his sheet metal shop.

I made mine closer to the backrest. I didn't want to make it harder to get it into and out of the bracket.

I would 1st use the allen wrench and adjust the riders backrest! It worked for me.. No bend required, after adjusting with the allen wrench.

Please let me know how I am screwing up. I have adjusted the allen screw out as far as it will go in fact it isn't even in the backrest right now. As I see it it doesn't fit, I would take it back but I don't see any other backrests that match the stock seat. I read the washer thread but dont really understand what is going on there. It seems that the two main mounting points are the two main bolts in the bracket. If I put washers on the front bracket to tip it back it seems like I will just bend the front bracket when I tighten up the two rear mounts. Am I missing something? Please tell me there is an easier way 'cause I am all about doing anything that is easier. Maybe someone who has done the washer mod could give me more complete directions.

Thanks
Phil

P.S. I am about 6'3" and 290 so the room is needed I feel like I am sitting on the tank as it is now.

Just to clairify..I don't think you are screwing up. But I do think you might want to think about returning the one you have and trying out the adjustable one.
I'm 5'9" 200 pounds and the thing pushes me up too far. I could only image you sitting on the tank...like you said.
