Default Tempted by a Buell!

I currently have a 2009 road king which I have ridden for just about a year. It's a great bike but I don't use it for touring. I had planned to do much more long distance riding when I first bought it but I spend a majority of time around town with it which brings me to my dilema. I got a chance to take out a Buell Lightning and really felt that it fit me better, much lighter, nimble, better riding position and more designed for around town use). My question is do I stick it out with the FLHR or take the leap into the Buell world?

I would love to keep both but it's definitely not in the financial cards. I would either sell outright or try to swing a trade with a local Buell dealer.

Any thoughts?

I sold my 2005 XB9SX this summer and I really miss that bike. At the time I also had a Dyna and would switch between the two.

The XB was awesome in the city and hitting the mountains was a ton of fun. I took it up to the top of Mt. Evans in May and that was one of the funnest rides I've ever been on. It was fun watching my friend try to keep up on his road king. It goes where you point it and is rock solid in the curves. 45mpg even with the race kit on it.

I love my road king but someday I'll get another Buell, but to answer your question it would be in addition to my cruiser, not a replacement.

I have two bikes. Softail and Ninja. I could live with out the Ninja, but its great to switch up. Its like having two pretty ladies.

I say this because if you choose just one, you probably won't be completely happy. Look for a cheap jap bike to fill your need for speed. I didn't pay much at all for mine.

Buells are cuell, I mean cool.

I wouldn't mind having one to kick around on either.

If you can't afford two, then get the one that you want. It sounds like you still want a bike that will get your heart pumping faster than the RK will. I still have that in me too. I am just lucky that my cars are paid off so that I can have a couple of bikes. I would satisfy my need for speed while I was young, and then when the need subsides, go back to the tourer. Good luck in whatever you decide. I wouldn't blame you for trading.

I'm with Harry. Get the one you want, you can always go back to the RKwhen the fun wears off.

Look at the Ulysses, it's on my list of must have bikes. I borrowed one from my tuner for a few hours one day. It's tall and the riding position is similar to most off road bikes but damn that bike was quick and nimble. I embarrassed a handful of VFR riders on some canyon roads and was so comfortable I put in 4 hrs. with only one quick stop for gas. Plus the hard cases and tourpak give it more storage than just about any bike out there. Also just got a look at the new Buell 1125, not the RR but the new stripped down version. Riding position felt good and it's got the same power as the RR, looks like it'd be a blast to ride.
