torque values on axels
OK! I'm gonna try and change my tires very soon, my self. I don't know the torque specs on th efront and rear axels (if any). any body gotta clue?
Do yourself a big favor and buy or borrow an HD Service Manual for your bike. There's more to changing tires than knowing the torque values for the axle nuts. For example, the spacers on the front wheel are not the same and need to be correctly installed left/right, and the left one needs to be installed correctly relative to the bearing/fork side.
Use anti-seize, adjust the belt tension correctly on the rear, front axle holder nut torque, etc. are some of the other elements of changing tires correctly.
The above is from my 2004 HD manual; 2000 may be different. Without reading the tire changing procedures in the SM, it's hard to know what you don't know. Someone could answer your question about axle nut torque values; you could think you were prepared to do the job right; and, you'd find you really weren't equipped with the necessary information.
I'm no tech or mechanic, but the SM is my best friend when I work on my bike.
Good luck with your project.
