I skipped Myrtle Beach this year, did Laconia and Delmarva(Ocean City, MD) instead. Delmarva was packed and had a great time, I think attendance was an all time high. I think most peolple want to go where they feel welcome.
Was down at Thunder Beach in Panama City Beach last week and bikers were very welcome. It was just as packed as last year for the fall event, tons of vendors and venues all free entry and parking. It's billing as the most biker frendly rally holds true IMO.
We will return where we are wanted and NOT spend our money on an area such as MB where we are so obviously not wanted.
Easy decision in my mind.
A lot of us didn't think they would do what the city managers said they were going to do. This as been going on or started some 4 or 5 years ago. Golf Golf Golf is the name of the game not bikes. Seems like each year got worse. And you know Daytona folks have been talking about taking it out of the city, some say money from N-Car with no problems is better than all the problems for the locals. during bikeweek. I know for myself I like Myrtle Beach better because of the hotel prices didn't jump of the page like in Daytona.
I thought the same thing was going to happen in Daytona thanks to some of the local government and their cronies. But motorcycles are such a deeply ingrained part of Daytona Beach that they'll probably NEVER get rid of the bikers. Hopefully the economy and the weather won't screw up Biketoberfest too much this year. Daytona, here I come!
they have no one to blame but themselves. They wanted a quiet sleepy little town, they got it. Hope their social security checks hold out. I got an email from one of the hotels I used to stay at, told them to take me off their mailing list, and to thank their local council for being so biker friendly. F... 'em
Couldn't agree more, they did it to themselves! OBX gets my vote and my money!
I made the mistake of riding down with my brother-n-law who had never been before. About an hour after we got there he asked " so how much farther till we're at the rally"? I heard another "rider" tell one of the event staff that he had heard there was a rally nearby, then asked if he could get directions to it. What a shame. Guess I'll be going down to North Myrtle just for the camping from now on.
PS,
Saw a BUNCH of RG's,
new and old
As a first timer to MB i was let down. Kept hearing about the vendors, SBB, Rats Hole and The Beaver bar. Well I visited everyone of the vendors took about a half day including the drive. Hit the Rats Hole for the field games after paying 10.00 to get in watched the field games with more people in them then in the stands watching , oh yea only about 20 bikes in the games. As far as the SBB (both of them) you could have put all the people in the newer of the two. The Beaver Bar was packed meet a lot of good folks there but again very mild from what i have heard about. It is a shame that the mayor as well as the county did the bike week they way they have done I feel that even if things change during the election it will be a long hard road till if MB bike week will ever be back as close as it was known for. I will say took one day and rode to Savannah, GA as well as Charleston SC and that was the best part of the trip.
From: South of Raleigh, and west of the coast, NC.
Guess everyone is finally getting the BIG picture....The forces that be in MB DON'T WANT MOTORCYCLES OR THE FOLKS WHO RIDE THEM....I will not go back UNLESS something drastically changes.
I feel for the business people trying to make a living. We just had a local town in my state hassle bikers with roadblocks and word spread like wildfire to stay away.
Who suffered the most were the local bar owners, gas stations, etc............one charity run was cancled because no one wanted to ride through the town as the cops were bigtime anti biker..........what kills me is when a few vets are riding together not speeding causing no trouble and a couple of young bucks pull us over and bust *****....
Cost $25 bucks to fight a ticket now in my state plus if ya lose the surcharges from insurance are ridiculus.......
Our freedoms are under fire bigtime...........Very friendly biker town Ft Myers Fl, Cape Coral bike night is pretty good as well.
