Yesterday I asked what jack to buy (Pep Boys/Sears) but I should have asked how to use it. I assembled my jack and practiced going up and down before jacking up the bike. I jacked up the bike and every thing was great. But when I let the bike down it fell over on the crash bars (Thank God for Crash Bars). I did have the kickstand down but it fell to the right. I talked to my buddy and he said he always puts the jack on the same side as the kickstand, looking at some pictures I see some put the jack on the right side. Is there a correct side. I did lift and lower the bike 3 times successfully but another time it would have tipped over again if I wasn't prepared.
Please send me pointers on how to lift and lower the bike correctly.
I don't know what you were lifting. I raise my classic and roll it around and have never dropped the bike. I always raise from the right side and leave the jiffy down and in place. When lowering I hava a hand on the bike and ease it over on the jiffy to make sure it is stable before letting go. Otherwise you better start using the securing straps.
When using the right side: place the left jack pad under the flat bar near the trans and the right bar is then under the engine. besure that there is 1 to 1.5 inches of lift pad showing outside the frame on bothsides of the bike.

Like SnoozingEagle Said - I always keep a hand on the bike when lowering and lean it slowly to the stand.
I Jack mine from the left side and just ease it off the ground and back down with the Jiffy Stand down. Make sure you let it down real slow. Also, when it is on correctly, the bike os fairly well balanced.
I always go from the right side, nothing is in my way when I check clutch, primary chain or take the filter off. ALWAYS keep a hand on bike when raising AND lowering.
