Default '99 RK idle ??

this may be a noob question, but I recently Bought a '99 RK from my local PD 52k miles, starts and runs well, thought at idle it the tach registers around 500 rpm... is this the normal std. idle level or should it be kicked up a bit. If so how is this accomplished. since this being the first HD I have owned, still learning about the bike. =)

any info would be much appreciated =) ty

peace and God Bless =)

Do you have a service manual? If so it will give you detailed steps on how to adjust it. I have a 00EGC and earlier this year fought cold idle issues, the book is very helpful.

Does the the bike have a carburetor or EFI?

That's pretty low in any case, I'd be wary of low oil pressure.

You probably have a carb. Setting the idle screw is no big thing as long as you know which screw it is, but it could also be a poor mixture set or real weak plugs. Since your new to the bike I'd take it by a shop and have them set it up for you.

My carbed '99 RK will idle really slow sometimes also. Other times not. But it doesn't stay idling very long ;-)

Love my carb...potato potato potato (almost).
