Default Fatboy VS Street Glide

Hello to all, yes I'm on the Softail side, well I'm looking at coming over to the dark side of a Street glide I like my 07 fatboy, but sense the 09 SG came out I love it! I like how Harley lowered it, and all of the new things they did to the touring models. I have test road a 09 SG and it was nice, but it was one of those around the block type of test rides that only Harley will let you do. So For all of you guys who own a 09 SG if you were in my place by owning a 07 Fatboy, would you trade up for the 09 ? Thanks

Had an unbalanced 91 Fatboy rode it everwhere really liked it then I rode a rubber mount FXR and swore I would never have anything else but a rubbermount, finally got one in 08 will never go back unless it is my second bike.

I went from an 04 Fatboy to an 09 SG this spring. They are both great bikes. I am very happy with the Street Glide but there are some things I miss about the Fatboy.

The Street Glide has more power than my 04, ride is great, but it does bottom out on sharp bumps, handling is great for a big bike, fairing and radio are nice (I put on an 8 1/2" Clearview windshield), and the hardbags are handy. It is bigger, heavier, and taller than my Fatboy and I worry about dropping it.

One other disadvantage, I just got it back today after a month of haviing the frame replaced. This happend because a woman clipped my crashbar from behind and the frame tore where the cener bolt from the crashbar screws into the frame. The more you have on the bike, the more there is to break. So the crash bar, hard bags, fairing, etc. are nice, but there is also more to break and fix.

I would evaluate your riding and needs. For the miles I put on it and length of trips that I take, the Street Glide is more bike than I need. This is good, becase it is a great bike with a lot that the Fatboy does not have, but not so good in that it is big with a lot of stuff to break.

Good luck with your decision. Fatboy or SG, not a bad choice to have to make.

I switched from a '02 Fat Boy to a '09 Street Glide and I would never go back. The SG is so much more refined and fun to ride at higher speeds. With the FB my hands would go numb because of the vibration of the balanced engine. One negative of the SG is that it is more top heavy.

I came from a 2008 Night Train, which I had invested several thousand in, mainly for looks, to my current 2008 Electra Glide Standard, which I have already invested about a grand in, mainly for comfort. I couldn't be happier with my switch. The Train was nice to look at and really fun to throw around, but you can't beat the ride and comfort of a touring bike. I say go for it, but it's ultimately up to you.

I ride a fatboy and hubby rides a SG. There really is no comparison to riding the two. Both handle and feel completely different. The Fatboy handles much better, in my opinion. Personally I prefer the looks of the Fatboy, but the extras on the SG (hard bags, and the gagets) are great to have especially on a long road trip although both are great for road trips.

Hubby wanted me to trade in my Fatboy and get a matching RG like his. I wouldn't even consider it. It's just not the bike for me. I love my Fatboy. I'd be hardpressed to find a better fit and feel. But that's just me.

It's a toss up. Both are great bikes.

I went from a 03 Fatboy to a 08 Ultra with the quick release tour pack and solo seat. Now I have the best of both worlds almost a Street glide and a Ultra when going on long trips. I don't miss the Fatboy at all.
I had 2 bikes a 99 Ultra and a 03 Fatboy at the same time. The last season I had both I only rode the Fatboy about 300 miles, and rode the dresser 16k, so the Fatboy was sold and the 99 Ultra was traded in for a 08 Ultra. I love the touring models, never had any regrets and would not go back

I bought my 09 SG this spring. I kept the Fat Boy. It get didn't much attention this year. Still fun to blast around town on but any trip with any distance I take the Street Glide.

I've been riding an '09 Street Glide since March and still have my '00 Fatboy. I really couldn't choose between them, since there's things about each that I like. I added a detachable tourpak to the Glide and I have to say the wife really loves touring on the Glide. We had a lot of touring miles on the Fatboy and she never compained, but she has just fallen in love with the glide.
