Top Case, Tour Pak options
Good day:
I have a retired police bike, I am looking for options for a Tour Pak. Squadfitters makes a radio box, painted to match my Birch White bike for $300. I don't know if anyone has used this top box, just wanted to know how it looks and what mounting options I have.
My bike has the radio rack still installed and the police saddle bags, so using a stock HD Tour Pak is difficult without mods. I am using a soft "tail bag" that uses bungi cords to attack to the bike, this setup works great, it is just not very secure.
Thanks, Mac

I also have a retired police bike, they are really the same as any other RoadKing/ElectraGlide, though you are correct, with the Police radio box mount, you are somewhat limited, though i'm sure you could mount a king tour pack to that. I run the police saddlebags as well, and use the HD detachable rack with no issues. (i did have to space the tour pack about 1" to allow clearance for the saddlebags to open though)
The squadfitters' box will be narrower and longer than HD's King tour pak. The local PD has them on their motors in black with lights. I'm sure it would be highly functional, but will look different from what is typically seen on civilian HD's: King, Ultra, and chopped tour paks. Also, if you carry a passenger, the backrest options will be pretty limited and not as comfortable as the King TP's wrap around backrest.
Check-out Mutazu boxes. I've had one for 4 years for occasional use and consider it an excellent value at under $200. I also have an HD Ultra tour pak and prefer the Mutazu for its light weight to throw on the bike for occasional errands around town. Many HDF'ers have the Mutazu and been pleased with its value.
As HDR mentioned, installation of an HD tour pak on the police bike is a simple adjustment. I used automotive hard rubber bushings and equivalently longer stainless bolts, nuts, and washers to raise the tour pak 3/4" - 1" to provide clearance for opening the saddlebags.
Good luck with your project.
