Muffler Alignment Fix Idea for 09's. What do you think?
I installed Slipons on my 09 SG and noticed the left muffler (belt side) was out of alignment. Looked like the crossover tube is too short causing the muffler to sit at a slight angle due to the fixed mounting point at the tip. With bags removed you can clearly see right muffler runs parallel to the and the lef muffler has a gap up where it connects to the crossover.
I went to the dealer and they agreed its the stock crossover tube design. The stock bikes on the floor and several in the parking lot all were uneven. One poor guy had never noticed till I pointed it out to him now he is pissed off to.
Im surprised nobody has come out with an A/M Crossover tube to fix this problem so I thought I would fix it myself.
I plan on cutting the tube under the bike, shifting it over a bit until the muffler lines up and using another piece of exhaust as a sleeve to weld in place to correct the angle.
What do you guys think? Am I missing something?
I can do this fix for $10 instead of buying aftermarket true dual headers.
My mufflers do not look like your drawing at all....
Straight as they possiable can be...
I do have a Ca. bike with a 49 state header and cross over tube, not sure if that did anything....
Got a real Picture to share ?
I will take some tonight when I get home from work and post up. There was a previous post from a member with this same problem on his Vance and Hines slip ons and he is going to buy a true dual header to solve his problem.
Its not a huge problem but if I can fix it Id like to and will need to fix it if I get extended bags so they line up right.
My muffler alignment is identical to the drawing above, also the left pipe is a little low in the front causing it to pitch slightly higher at the muffler tip as compared the the right side. This was not noticeable with the stock exhaust due to the taper of the mufflers, but with the slash downs it's noticeable. Not a big enough of a problem that I would go to the problem of removing the crossover pipe and cutting it to make the correction.
Mine look like yours also. When I installed the Rineharts I thought it looked F^%$ed up but I put the bag back on and decided to ignore it. Now I won't be able to sleep. Not.

Yeah.... It pissed me off at first and than I kindof stopped thinking about it but now that Im debating getting extended bags Id have to get it fixed. The channel cut out of the bag that the muffler sits in will make this alignment problem look even worse!
Im going to cut it but cant get to it for another week or two due to my schedule.
