Default Cee bailey

Hey guys:

Purchased Cee Bailey 12in curve windshield from a forum member here. Great transaction and Fast Shipping. Couldn't ask for a better deal. Got it yesterday in perfect condition and went home and installed it. Even added rubber washers to isolate the vibration. Went for a short ride and loved it. No wind in my face and helmet didn't buffett. Was really digging it then Disaster happened. Running about 80 MPH and it started vibrating when I passed a trailer truck and POW cracked in half then shattered into pieces.
Scared the crap out of me. So I ride home with like 2 pieces of windshield sticking out of my fairing. My wife said "what did you hit" I said, AIR. I have contacted Cee Bailey and Since I'm not the original owner, I'm basically up the creek without a paddle. Just thought you guys might want to know.

I'm wondering about your reason for adding rubber washers (you said "vibration".) I have the Cee Bailey SSC (think that's what the "contoured" windshield is called) on my Ultra and there's no special vibration whatever (and it hasn't cracked.) Is this a vibration that was only noticed after adding this particular shield?

Maybe the added washers created stress risers . . .?

It's a real shame, because I think this is a very good-looking shield.

If possible, talk to Joe at Cee Bailey's. He's the guy in charge and very cooperative.

For some reason I have always added rubber washers my first windshield-standard street glide height had a funny rattle and the washers stopped it.

I've got four of them. Never added washers or anything that wasn't by design and never had a single crack on any of my SSC's.

I've got 11",12" and 13" SSC they vibrates somewhat at idle but has never been a problem. When we travel a long distance our speed is generally 80 to 85 with some 90's thrown in to move around traffic. Never had a problem never used any rubber washers, but mine does want to creep up somewhat, washers might be a good idea to stop creep.

Maybe when you installed the shield you over-tightened a screw which could cause a crack to start at the base & then the wind vibration caused it to spread - did you use a torque wrench ? - just a thought

I didn't use a torque wrench but I did crank on them pretty hard with the allen heads so I'm thinkin the same thing. Cracked it a little when installed that was under the fairing and the wind/vibration caused it to bust. Oh well, lesson learned. If anybody has another Cee Bailey Dark or Smoke for sale let me know. I'm buyin.

I'm very interested in these Cee Bailey CSS shields as I haven't been able to find the right windshield to reduce buffeting for my passenger. Recurved or straight don't matter, 6.5", 9.5" or 12" don't matter either.
Does the CSS REALLY cuts buffeting behind the rider?
If it does, I might be tempted to order one. So if I want the same driver protection as the 12" stock shield, what size CSS should I order?
Oh and what bothers me is that I can't use my T-bags windshield bags with it. That's a real bummer. What do you guys use to carry your small stuff?

By the way, is there someone else making countoured windshields like Cee Bailey?
