I understand people exercising their rights not wear a helmet but, it's irresponsible not to wear one. People should think more of others rather than their personal rights. On the other hand, if you're alone in this old world, go for it. IMHO
When I got into bicycling. I was talking to a sales person at a bike shop. He asked about a helmet, I said no way. He said let me ask you this whats's your head worth to you. I said alot, he handed me a helmet.
Sales pitch, I know but If you think about it it's true.
When I was 14 yrs old riding on the back of my Dads Electra Glide we went down and bounced down the highway at around 55 mph. I had a helmet on and I'm very glad I did, I blacked out for a minute but felt an extreme pressure pushing my head to the pavement after I stopped sliding and when I opened my eyes I saw the rear tire of the car that had just ran over my head. I only got a bunch of road rash and a broken collar bone, My Dad broke his neck, he wore a Halo for 6 months and is fine now and still riding, but if neither of us were wearing helmets, I'm sure it would have been worse.
Well I'll be 42 in a couple weeks and have never gotten on one since without a helmet and never will. I have two kids and a wife and don't want to burden them with emptying my drool cup and changing my diaper because I was too stupid to wear a helmet. I agree to each his own, but I also agree that people should think of the person that may be burdened with your care someday so you could feel the wind in your hair.
The wind in my hair isn't worth blowing spit bubbles and crapping my pants!!!!!!!!!!!
