I need to get the handlebars about 2" closer. Stopped by my dealer to check on the price and was shocked (I know, it's HD, I shouldn't be shocked at anything), too find out the handlebars were $149, but I need cables, one of which is $139 I think, and the other was about $100. Anyway, $600 in parts, and about $400 to install.
What other options do I have? Remember, the bars were only $149, it's all the other crap that's a problem.
What model do you have? What bars are you looking at? You probably won't need new cables for that small of a change. Give us some more info and I'm sure someone can let you know for sure.
If their the HD Pull Back Bars, no new cables are needed. The clutch cable just has to be rerouted....If you have just a little mechanical knowledge, installing the bars is a pretty easy job.
Pick up the service manual, take your time and your save yourself some serious money.....But that's just me...
Mango Mike I have an 08 ultra classic and I installed Flanders Bars part #650-08725 these bars have at least 2 inches of pullback and maybe more and all I needed was a 3 inch over stock clutch cable as I wanted to keep the stock routing of the cable. All of the other wires and front brake line are long enough. Oh clutch cable part #38649-07. The most difficult part of the install was removing and replacing the exhaust. You must remove the exhaust to get at the clutch cable where it enters the tranny.

I had previously changed my clutch cable, but I think with the HD Pullbacks the stock cable would have worked. It would be worth trying without changing since you don't have to remove the exhaust on the '09's. If its too short you can always reroute it outside the fairing if you have to order a cable, so you won't lose any saddle time.
