I went to my dealer on Sat. and bought the backrest that I have wanted for a long time now. Came home and installed it , honestly it only took 45min or less. '99 ultra, one screw for the seat, Two nuts that hold the passengers grab bar in place and one clip type nut that goes over an existing hole. I did luck out and mont it in the correct hole the first time as far as the forward/backward position goes. I can see where the directions can be confusing as they offer different setup's for diff. year bikes.
Alot of Harley parts are fairly simple. Save the $$$$$$ and do it yourself. Last year I bought a set of SE perf. mufflers and the ac kit,
friend of mine did the same but had it dealer installed. I think there was about a $200.00 diff. in cost between the two jobs. I also bought my parts at the HD dealer day after thanksgiving sale and that was a saveings of $211.00. So, between my bike and his for the same job, I paid about $411.00 less.
Some directions can be very confusing, I consider my self to be kinda of smart, not the smartest, but not Bubba Gump dumb either. Those damn directions for he security code for the bike suck. I said screw it, I will always bring my keys.
well- i was reading how some guys had to install quite a few washers to 'line everything up' and how the bags were pitched a bit after install. i didnt want to booger it up and risk misalignment so i paid my guy $60.
one of the first things he said when i went to the shop was how he sees alot of customers 'using alot of washers' to install the hardware. lol
