Default Easy project when you get bored

Just changed out my fork sliders for chrome ones. Took about 3.5 hrs and it is not hard to do with the right tools. Highly recommend you use an impact to get out the drain screw in the original legs and for the 6mm bolt at the bottom of the legs.

The hardest part seemed to be putting the ignition back in, kind of a PITA. I tried doing the fork seal change with the tubes still in the trees and decided to remove them, made the job easier, in fact after loosening the pinch bolts on the trees the tubes slide down to the rubber rings easily.

I am including some pics, also see that I used an 1 1/2" dia. X 2' long PVC pipe ( bought at Lowe's ) that I split along the length to put the new seals in. Putting in new 15w fork oil while the tubes are on the bench makes the job easier. Also put on new front brakes seeing how I had the wheel off anyways and the bike would have needed them soon anyway.

After a quick 15 mi. ride I could feel a better response on the front forks especially when stopping, no more diving front end. An easy project that can be done by anyone with a little mechanical knowledge, a lift and the right tools. Best part, I probably saved $300-$350 doing it myself and now I can get those Ohlin shocks I want.

+1 on using the impact. I stripped the head out of one of the 6mm bolts trying to do it without one, then had to drill and use an ease out with the new impact I bought to finish the job.

Also agreed on the fork seals, much easier to just go ahead and take the tubes out of the trees.

Nice shop by the way.
