Default New Grip Instructions, Help!!!

Picked up a set of the nostalgic grips today for my '08 RG. In reading the instructions, it says I need to insert a 4mm shim between the brake lever on the right side to prevent damage to the front brake rubber boot on the sensor......o.k. where in the h e double hockey sticks to I get a 4mm shim? Second, is it really necessary as I plan a being very careful when removing. Also mentioned was the the seal cap for the throttle by wire sensors.......not too concerned, but figured I'd post up to see what everyone else's experiences were when replacing grips. Thanks for your insight!

Just use a piece of cardboard and you'll be fine.

Changed my grips a while back and like you was a little concerend with the throttle side but it's a piece of cake. Just take your time and read the insturctions.

4 mm is about 5/32". Take a match book cover or even a piece of paper and fold it to that thickness and use it for your shim. It'sot rocket science. As for your by wires, sorry I can't offer any help.

Just use something like part of a matchbook cover, folded-over. It's fairly crucial to use a shim though, and one less thing to worry about -- it's very easy to mess-up the switch. Many previous posters here in the HDF 'hood' have done so.

+1 on cardboard. works like a charm. Definately don't miss this step. I've read some threads where people who don't use a shim end up running into issues.

Good Luck! Post some pics when you're done.

Cardboard will do the trick or just cut yourself a small piece of wood.

Cut a chunk of the paper backing from the package the grips came in and use that.

I did not use anything, just a little finesse and patience.

squeeze lever, insert piece of folded paper..

Pull the throttle side grip straight off, don't man handle it or wiggle it back and forth or you'll break the end off of the grip sensor.
