I just traided my 06 RG in for an 09 RG and took off the chrome windshield trim to put on the 09.
Does anyone know the trick to put this on, it doesn't go on easy?
Thanks for the help.
Are you talking about putting the rubber gasket on underneath the windshield? If yes, I always start in the middle of the gasket and work my way out. Take your time! DO NOT push the phillips head screwdriver in when you are tightening the barrell nuts as they may push inside the fairing. Simply tighten by turning not by pushing. Tuck the gasket tight underneath the shield on both sides little by little as you move outwards, take your time and it's very easy.
if you're talking about the HD chrome trim, for a Road Glide.... there is a trick... but it's different for each bike (idon't know why... just IS)
On my bike, the 2 ecentric screws go in the middle slots, I thought "logically" they would go in the OUTBOARD slots.
I've found that by getting everything started ON the windshield, then placing the windshield, and wellnuts onto the fairing, everything slips into place. I used an open end wrench to snug up the CENTER screw, then the two middle screws, and then the two outboard screws.
The chrome trim, should then snap right on. Looking through the screw holes on the trim, I adjust the ecentric screw to line up with the hole.
If you can't get all the holes to line up, try placing the ecentric screws on the outboard position.
Note.... I've pushed a fair number of well nuts INTO my fairing, so I find it easier to remove the whole windshield, and start the screws before placing the shield onto the bike, but I know others who aren't as heavy handed as I.
The rubber trim, seems to be optional... it went on easily with my "clearview"
I was able to order an additional set of ecentric screws from HD. Now I use all ecentric screws except for the center screw and evrything lines up easily.
