I found a couple different sizes...1", and 1.25". I'm thinking I can cut up a mousepad (per some info I found, these make great anti-vibration material) and use it to ensure a tight fit.

Thanks for the feedback...sounds like I may have found a solution.

I'd try the 1" first....Even with the mouse-pad. The pad is probably about 1/16 to 1/8 thick at best. Once you clamp it down good it'll probably collapse to abut 1/2 that thickness.
This should provide more than adequate slip and scratch resistance and also add a bit of anti-vibe as well.

FWIW, I'd probably add a drop of blue loctite on the clamp threads after you determine final placement. I can't imagine the suck factor if the clamp suddenly lets go at speed becasue the vibration rolled the screw loose.

Post Pics !!

The bars are 1", but I see what you are saying about the mousepad squeezing down. I contacted Gibraltar directly to see what they have to say about it (realizing that this clamps is made for music, and not my specific application). I may just stop by the guitar store and pick one up for now, and see if it will work regardless.

There's quite a few sites online that sell solid and hollow metal rods, cut to size, and not too much money. I'm think either aluminum or stainless, and will just paint it.

I'll definitely post pics and a little writeup of whatever I come up with.

Hey, did you ever finish your solution for the bar on the handlebars? I'd like to do the same exact thing on my bike.
