check out the Arai helmets I have the classic M
it is dot and snell aproved. I wear a helmet for one
reason and one reason only, I don't want to Die, At
least not yet, there are a few more roads that I
want to ride befor I go home
As much as I would like to say this process will not take too long, it really is necessary to spend the time to find a helmet that is comfortable on YOUR head. Your wife may find one that works well for her, but it may not work well for you. In that regard, it may be prudent to stick with solid color helmets, where you both can find helmets that are either the same color or a very close match, but may not be the same Mfr or helmet model.
Good luck!
Koala: Thanks for the good write-up. I know we may end up with different brands/models. I just wanted to try to identify the ones we should be researching before going in to try on...rather lean towards ones that a lot of people have great reviews on, and stay away from the ones that everybody hates, at least to start with.
Thanks for the link to the intercom as well. Definitely we'll be comparing those systems versus the HD one that came with the bike.
I appreciate everybody else's feedback as well. Keep them coming!
I just recently bought a HD 3/4 helmet, it's the basic one that they sell for $100. I went with that one since it was the only one they offered in XXXXL, and I still had to do a little modification to it to let it fit comfortably. It is DOT certified, and pretty light for a 3/4 helmet.
I have the same helmet in size M for my daughter and wife. That one is DOT and SNELL certified, and they both like it.
We have tried several but like the HJC AC 3 Carbon Fiber the best. It was the lightest and best fitting 3/4 helmet out there, imo. The HD Headset works great with it too. We got 2 shipped to us for $360.00 last year from Newenough.com: http://www.newenough.com/helmets_eye...le_helmet.html
Good luck & Ride safe.......
I have the same helmet and love it. It replaced a six year old Shoei RJ Platinum that was getting pretty funky inside. The new helmet feels lighter and I like the look of the carbon fiber. I've had it about six months and it's holding up well, no scratches yet, but I haven't dropped it either.
I have Harley's 3/4 helmet that has the flip-up windshield. I like mine alot. Sorry, I don't recall the name though. Glad to hear your going with a skull cap. Ride safe.
I wear a 3/4 Shoei RJ-Platinum R helmet most of the time now and I'm real happy with it. It feels as light as my Scorpion EXO-100 half helmet.
Been wearing this model since 1996, the newer one's are even better.
This is one of the most comfortable helmets out there, I buy mine large, new it feels a bit tight but they break in to fit like they are custome made for you.
My wife wears one too, we're very happy, I'm getting ready to buy another mine is getting a bit loose after 14 years......lol
