Default Harmon kardon problem

Has anyone else had problems with their radio. Mine is a 2006 and the sound cuts out until I turn off the radio and turn it back on. Are the Harmon kardon radios crap and should be replaced after 3 years of use. I would think I would be able to get more life out of a so called premium unit.

My 06 Ultra did the same. Radio lost power when on the highway. I finally had enough with the problems with my 06 and traded for my 09 Ultra. My 09 could not be any better. 0 Problems with 14,000 miles. No more radio problems and clattering lifters that drove me crazy. I have seen people replace the HK radio with 3rd party systems and were extremely happy with the new ones. Do a search on HK radios. There have been many posts on this with the solutions. Good luck

06 and 07 bikes have notoriously week fairing brackets. The excess vibration or in many cases, the brackets breaking completely, cause vibration damage to the audio circuit. In 08, HK installed a modification to the audio circuit to prevent the weak fairings from damaging the unit. I would check with the guys at Iron Cross Audio. I'm positive they install that mod as part of their repair / refurb program.

had the same problem with my 08, and had the radio replaced under warranty. And as others have said, the HK radios are horrible... there are many others that are available with better options that are out there...

Talking same prob

I have a 09 eg classic. radio did the very same thing. drove me crazy. I knew i was going to take it in to the shop, so before hand i bought some hog tunes speakers. I was thinking if they have to take the fairing off anyway they can replace the speakers. Well come to find out , it was the speakers all along. they said something about the ohms changing when the temp got over like 60 degrees outside, causing the sprakers to cut out.

Cliffnote.. the hogtunes speakers are 50 times better then OEM garbage

Might sound unlikely but check to make sure the CB is off! Sometimes the simple things cause the big problems .

Another simple check is to make sure the connection on the rocker switch for the speakers on the dash are connected well........

yep they are crap. Dealer replaced mine 3 times under warranty.
this summer when it quit again, that was it.
Contact dragonfly concepts, biketronics, or even JP cycles.
Replace it with aftermarket, and still use you handlebar controls.
For around $700 I got a Kenwood radio, adapter and two better speakers.
Only down side, radio is not water resistant ( I fixed that), and sunlight makes display almost unreadable. But the sound is better and and it is blue tooth and USB ready, and it works everytime!!
